Baroc developed client-server issue management software “Beta Management System” for Bluesoft to manage offshore QA operations for a major CAD/CAM software company.

The Problem

One of the world’s largest CAD/CAM software companies outsource its QA and localization operations to Bluesoft. They were looking for a desktop solution to smoothly handle their bug reporting and issue management. Prior to developing this system, Bluesoft used extensive mailing to manage their issues. The problem with this was that it was difficult to track/manage the issues in a central repository. Different workgroups used different ways for mailing (e.g. Outlook, web based clients etc) which made it difficult to use a consistent technique. Considering all such problems Bluesoft decided to get a custom solution developed.

Tools and Technologies used

The system is based on proven client/server architecture. The desktop application is developed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 while the backend database is Microsoft SQL Server.

Tools: VB 6.0, SQL Server 7.0, XML for data transfer to web, CDONTS for mailing, Automation with Excel for exporting the generated reports, Automation with Outlook for scanning incoming mails.

Solution

Baroc performed a comprehensive scope study to clearly understand the need of Bluesoft. This led to designing and developing a scalable and robust solution using the clients existing infrastructure. Baroc developed a desktop application that delivered the required functionality. The Beta Management System is proving to be an effective and cost saving issue management solution for the client. It enables streamlined workflow and enhanced productivity.
